It has been been pretty cool in Southern California... don't let this outfit post fool you! I got this fringed zipper jacket from Nordstrom a few months ago and I've been dying to wear it! So the occasion and weather presented itself a few days ago when I went out to lunch with Jonathan. This is rapidly becoming one of my favorite pieces! It works with dresses, shorts, jeans.... practically anything (E X T R E M E L Y V E R S A T I L E)! Plus, it has a bohemian, California vibe - can't say no to that! You may have noticed that I am wearing boots with only a slight heel! A majority of my posts (around 99.99%) feature me in some sort of high heel. But with all the running around I've been doing, I decided to trade in my heels for some comfortable DV by Dolce Vita boots.
My pharmaceutical rotations have come to an end 😠For those of you who are reading my blog for the first time, my first 2 APPE rotations of P4 year were at Allergan and Pfizer. I intentionally planned these industry blocks as early as possible so I could obtain letter of recommendations for fellowship applications next month. My upcoming rotation, Block 3, will be at Walgreens. I know you must be thinking... why didn't you put this as your last rotation? Well, I chose to have retail during my 3rd block so I could work on applications. I definitely did not want to be juggling projects/early hours with medicine rotations on top of writing my letter of intents and narrowing the programs I'd be applying to. There's a reason to everything I do!
As I was ranking rotations as a P3, I did not have any guidance to the process but I was able to determine which rotations I needed earlier on to make myself a stronger candidate. For my past two rotations, I had support from numerous fellows and preceptors in various companies. I was overjoyed with how willing they were to give advice! For current pharmacy students, I'm here to help! To those of you who have reached out to me so far, thank you for all your sweet emails! I'm so happy to be able to pay it forward. I will be posting extensive blog posts about P4 year and individual rotations in 2020. To get a glimpse of what I'm doing every day, follow me on IG: @adriennenguyenn.
Anyways, here's one of the summer outfits I wore in Corona del Mar combining bohemian/California girl vibes. I honestly keep finding new items in my closet with tags still attached! I'm in need of a shopping intervention since I buy so many things and wear them only once, if I'm lucky. I'll also be doing a big update to my Poshmark closet in 2020.

Although summer hasn't officially reached its denouement, school is starting again and morning commutes will, once again, be horrendous. But the one perk about getting your geek on, again? The amazing S A L E S! I'm sure you have all heard of the major retailer, Macy's. If you haven't visited their website or stores in a while, NOW is the time! They are having a blowout sale for all your back to school clothing necessities! Dresses for under $20? Tops for under $15? They have everything to fit any price range and personality! Remember to use the PROMO Code: 'BTS' to get 20% OFF and get free shipping on all orders over $75!
I bought this Free People dress during the sale and it's perfect to combat the humid Southern California heatwave! Plus, you can do braless - definitely a pro! Even with this cut, the chest portion stays in place whether you're bending to pick something up or twirling around. But I must say, the back of this dress is so much better! Just look at the tassel details! Free People is included in the Macy's sale so hurry before your size disappears! Until next time!
Howdy folks! I just started my second week of school and I cannot fathom the amount of material that has already accumulated. I've technically only been in school for seven days but whew this block schedule is definitely different. I personally prefer the scheduling since class lets out around noon each day. Even though I'm falling slightly behind, I'm taking my time to review concepts since they all build upon each other. It's better to develop a strong foundation of the topics rather than cram the material solely based on blind memorization. I've never been a fan of watching videos on Youtube but I found the "science" explanation videos truly beneficial this time round though I may be biased since I'm more of a visual learner... I'm making use and taking full advantage of every resource available to me! I'll be writing more pharmacy related posts in the near future!
Now let's flash back to the summer when I was in Borrego Springs! I live somewhat far from campus up in the mountains so it's still pretty warm... so what better time to post this desert bohemian outfit! The weather at home is completely opposite with that in La Jolla since it's always foggy and gloomy (even sprinkling at times) but that's probably because it's so close to the beach! Anyways, these sculptures in Borrego Springs are scattered all over the place! Jonathan and I had a map but we still had to drive up and down the dirt roads to find these beasts. I'm uploading most of my pictures on VSCO but here's a taste of what it's like in this sunny area. It was oddly quiet with very few residents. People come here for the sole purpose of taking pictures and you can drive up within inches of them which means lots of dust and dirt whirlwinds as you're attempting to snap the perfect picture. Nevertheless, we managed to get a few snaps in before I hopped into the middle of the road pretending to be a hitchhiker! Until next time!
I suppose it's all about my outlook on things. The notion that I will not be tested on anything at the end is comforting. It's all about facts and being about to fully execute all my tasks with precision. But enough about my life, here's a bohemian inspired outfit I recently wore on an absurdly humid day in San Diego. I got this Forever 21 maxi dress not too long ago and I styled it my own personal way. I love, love, love sleeveless duster coats so when I realized how versatile this dress could be, I quickly snatched it up! I went out to lunch with my mom after we snapped these pictures and it was so good to feel the crisp cool air from the AC after suffering in the sun. Hope you guys like this post! Until next time!
Hey guys! Jonathan and I went to watch the Pacific Symphony perform Carl Orff's Carmina Burana as part of their Classical Series. I bet many of you know this EPIC piece by ear but not by name - try Youtubing it! Instead of watching their performance indoors, we opted for the outdoor viewing. It was nice to experience orchestral music in a different environment but it was terribly cold! I love listening to classical music and Jonathan just loves being with me so he endures it just for me... Awwww! Today just happens to be his birthday! May all your birthday wishes come true! I wish we had more pictures together so I could post them here. We always try to take pictures when we're out together but they just turn out looking really weird, haha!
Anyways, here is an unpublished post of our visit to Paramount Ranch. It took us a while to get there with all the Los Angeles traffic - Californian's, you know what I mean, haha! Once we finally arrived at our destination, we saw a number of cars and trailers scattered around the parking lot. I was already grumpy since my gluteus maximus was going numb and now this tiny area had a lot of people? Great! Well, we walked inside and guess what? They were filming a Western movie! Witnessing the director call "action" and "cut" was interesting but the fact that we had to be quiet was irritating. We chose the wrong day to go however, we managed to sneak in some pictures as the set moved around the ranch!
I only have 3 weeks left of school before finals - then I'll be done with my first year of pharmacy school! I cannot fathom how quickly this year, especially my last two quarters, has passed. If you think about it, we only have approximately 6 more months until 2018. My first quarter was pretty slow since I was required to do a lot of busy work and I still didn't know my classmates well. As the year progressed, I realized how good I had it at UCSD. The small class size allows me to become acquainted with everyone and the P/NP grading is a blessing in disguise since the courses are so rigorous. I can't imagine what it'll be like next year since I'll be taking courses alongside medical students.
Anyways, this week was pretty packed! There were deadlines, homework, the annual banquet and BBQ. I documented daily shenanigans in my Instagram Stories and as promised, I will upload my peak in a life of a pharmacy student post very soon! I wish I lived closer to school so I could attend more school functions and be more socially active but I'll have to make do with what I have. There's still so much work left before the quarter ends and the projects are piling on fast! I can only keep sane because I write every little detail down in my agenda! Anyways, this outfit was taken in Newport Beach when I still lived in Orange County. Dusk happens to be one of my favorite times in the day but I still have yet to watch the sunset on the beach in San Diego. I really must take advantage of this city when I'm on break! I hope you guys are enjoying the warm weather in California! Until next time!
JACK O' LANTERN. Oh, how I miss carving pumpkins in Elementary school as class projects! I'm glad kids still get to enjoy the "art" of carving today! Although the place I went to did not have a large selection of pumpkins, it was extremely kid friendly! Kids were running all over the place however, the adults were gravitating toward the shady areas to avoid the unusual Autumn heat wave. I must say, the weather in California is a bit strange. It was getting chilly then suddenly Mother Nature decided to raise the temperature on Californians yet again! Nevertheless, it felt good to be outdoors - the perk my mom received from going to this pumpkin patch was the funnel cake! Afterwards, my mom and I went to the market to buy Halloween candy. I miss wearing my costume to school and trick-o-treating with friends. The good ole days!
BOHEMIAN. I have grown quite lazy ever since I finished Summer Session so my attire is mostly comprised of random tops, flare jeans, and shift dresses. I went out to the market to get some groceries and I decided to snap some pictures since my blog has been lacking real outfit posts!

BOHEMIAN ALLURE! As Summer reaches its' conclusion, I wanted to take advantage of California's last bout of humid weather. Whenever I think of California, I conjure up images of palm trees swaying in the wind, watching sunsets on the beach with a live bonfire, taking a road trip through the desert in a convertible.... the list goes on. However, I also associate California with bohemian-like clothing. I can imagine a close group of girls dancing in a vast field at sunset in lace maxi dresses with feathers in their hair... but then again, that's just me, haha. So that thought inspired this look. Even though I am not in a maxi dress, I decided to pair this lace top with wide-legged pants from Forever 21. To give this ensemble a little something extra, I decided to take an old necklace from Limited Too and turn it into a headpiece. As for the news I have to share with you guys, I, unfortunately, have to make you guys wait a tiny bit more as things are being finalized!

My mom and I decided to go to this very bare and rustic area to take some outfit shots of my boho look. I scouted the area with Jonathan a few years ago so I had a pretty good feel of my surroundings. Many cyclists and runners frequent the area so we ventured into one of the closed off paths to avoid the crowd. As my mom was taking the last few shots, I heard a very distinct buzz coming from behind. Of course, I assumed it was a fly just buzzing by. My mom stopped taking pictures because she thought there was a lot of "pollen" floating behind me. I turned around and to my dismay... it was a swarm of bees! HUNDREDS of them! *Signal Sympathetic Nervous System* Yeah, that's right. The first picture of this post features me standing in front of a swarm of surprisingly friendly bees!
I ran to my mom like a mad woman and we both crouched on the ground right next to each other. It probably took only a minute for them to pass by but it felt like a lifetime! I have been stung by a bee before and it is definitely NOT FUN. When I got back to my car, I regretted not taking a selfie with my mom while the bees were passing overhead! It would have been a classic KODAK moment. Anyways, I hope you like my outfit! I decided to keep it simple and added a few brown accessories to make my look appear bohemian.
I had the privilege of attending the Gastroenterology and Hepatology Symposium at, none other than the "happiest" place on earth - Disneyland. Although some of the terminology used during the talks were foreign to me, it reassured my decision to pursue a career in healthcare. I know it may sound a bit cliché however, the endless possibilities in science and medicine never ceases to amaze me. The research that goes into discovering relationships between potential drug alternatives and the prevention of diseases is amazing... actually, amazing is an understatement. This isn't the outfit I wore to such a formal event, obviously. I decided to mix a bit of rebellion into my bohemian-esque attire. My mom bought me this enchanting long cardigan sweater from Anthropologie for Christmas. Do you guys ever buy things, shove it in the back of your closet and rediscover it a few months later? If so, high five! We're on the same boat! Well, to juxtapose the long cardigan, I chose to pair this with a simple black mini dress. To complete my look, I chose black and gold accessories. Hope you like this outfit!
