I woke up early and decided to go downtown. I went to ASA Bakery which serves a variety of food items from pastries to rice plated entrees. I've been there before but I never make it out early enough to grab their infamous Naruto croissant. For those of you who aren't familiar with this, it's a rolled croissant with cream filling that every customer recommends. There was actually a line out the door so I dropped off my mom and searched for parking. Anyone who knows the parking situation in Downtown San Diego will be surprised that I found a spot within 15 minutes... over the weekend!
We got some of our favorite items: the curry pastry, pain au chocolat, and matcha croissant. If it's a busy weekend, they limit the Naruto croissant to just one per person and it's always the first item to run out. Unfortunately, neither of the Naruto croissants I got lived up to my expectations. I'm not saying it's bad but I feel like it is overly hyped and gets more attention than it deserves. They have much better tasting pastries here that don't share the limelight.
Seating is pretty limited so I always take my pastries to go. We went off to La Jolla to enjoy the ocean and our pastries... that is before a flock of seagulls surrounded us!
